A weekend in southern Styria without a visit to one of our traditional restaurants is as if you had not tasted a single glass of wine here - it's simply not possible.

Buschenschenken are traditional restaurants typical for southern Styria. Here, the winemakers serve their own wines and juices. Cold dishes made from regional products as well as local pastries based on farm recipes can also be served. Contrary to popular belief, the name does not come from the “Schank” in the middle of the Buschenschank, but from the “bushes” made of juniper that used to be hung over the doors of the Buschenschenken and indicated whether the winemaker was currently serving wine or not .

Often is assumed, that the name "Buschenschankcomes from the word "Schank" (bar)However, this is not true. Buschenschenken used to display a “Buschen” (bunch) of juniper above their door. It pointed out whether the Buschenschank was open and that the winemaker served wine.

With so many options, it's not easy to make a choice. From wine to regional dishes – there is one thing that the Buschenschanken in Southern Styria have in common: the quality of the regional products and the famous Southern Styrian hospitality!
