2001\/2002 gegr\u00fcndet. Der knapp 400 m<sup>2 <\/sup>gro\u00dfe Park umfasst den <strong>S\u00fcdteil des Bezirks Leibnitz<\/strong> (inklusive der Stadt Leibnitz selbst) und beheimatet rund <strong>47.000 Einwohner<\/strong>. Der Park verteilt sich auf insgesamt 15 Gemeinden. Die Landschaft geh\u00f6rt geografisch zum <strong>Weststeirischen H\u00fcgelland<\/strong>. Die wichtigsten Fl\u00fcsse sind die <strong>Saggau<\/strong>, die <strong>Sulm<\/strong> und die <strong>La\u00dfnitz<\/strong>, die allesamt in die <strong>Mur<\/strong> flie\u00dfen. Besonders markant sind dabei die <strong>Riedel<\/strong>. Das sind <strong>lang gezogene und flache H\u00fcgelz\u00fcge<\/strong>, die entlang der Mur nach S\u00fcdosten streichen. Zwischen den sanften H\u00fcgeln und den Talgebieten, die die Region durchschneiden, wechseln sich <strong>Weinberge<\/strong>, <strong>Streuobstwiesen<\/strong>, <strong>Ackerland<\/strong>, <strong>Laubmischw\u00e4lder<\/strong> sowie vereinzelte <strong>Weinbauernh\u00f6fe<\/strong> und Gemeinden einander ab und erzeugen so das Panorama der H\u00fcgellandschaft.<\/p><p>Ebenso einzigartig wie vielf\u00e4ltig ist die <strong>Pflanzen- und Tierwelt<\/strong>: Buchen und Kastanien pr\u00e4gen die W\u00e4lder, w\u00e4hrend sich in den S\u00fcmpfen Fr\u00f6sche, Feuersalamander sowie der Eisvogel tummeln.<\/p><p>Die Region ist zudem Heimat vieler <strong>Insekten<\/strong>, wie etwa der <strong>Holzbiene<\/strong>, der <strong>Brillenwanze<\/strong> oder der Die Einheimischen sch\u00e4tzen die Sulmauen als <strong>Erholungsgebiet<\/strong>. Die Sulmauen sind ein <strong>\u201eNatura 2000 Europaschutzgebiet\u201c<\/strong>. Seltene Tierarten wie z. B. der <strong>Eisvogel<\/strong> oder der <strong>Fischotter<\/strong> sind hier zu Hause.<\/p><p>Nahe der Sulmauen gibt es \u00fcbrigens auch drei beliebte Badeorte: die <strong>Steinerne Wehr<\/strong>, das \u00e4lteste Flussbad der Steiermark, liegt nahe des Zusammenflusses von Sulm und La\u00dfnitz. Es ist wegen der ruhigen Gew\u00e4sser ideal f\u00fcr Kinder. Weiter s\u00fcdlich lockt der <strong>Sulmsee<\/strong>, ein beschaulicher und warmer See.
